Australia Update: Nieminen Shocks Djokovic in Sydney, An All-Swiss Final in Kooyong

World number 3, Novak Djokovic, let another chance of leapfrogging Roger Federer in the rankings slip through his hands, when he lost to 40th-ranked Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 7-6, in the Sydney semifinals on Friday.

Rankings aside, the Serb was trying to get some confidence and practice with his new racquet, prior to his Australian Open title defense campaign, especially after suffering a disappointing first round loss in Brisbane last week.

Nieminen will now face 4th-seeded David Nalbandian in the final, after the Argentine eliminated a rejuvenated Richard Gasquet (also made the semis in Brisbane last week), in the other semifinal on friday.

Meanwhile, in Kooyong on Friday, Stanislas Wawrinka beat Fernando Gonzalez in 3 tight sets to reach the final, where he faces his Olympics doubles partner, Roger Federer, who had advanced to the final after scraping past Fernando Verdasco on Thursday.

Both Fernando's will play each other for 3rd place, before the Swiss ace, Federer, and his protege, face off in the final.
